The Fancy Free

Originally appearing in Crosby Gaige’s Cocktail Guide and Ladies Companion in 1941, the Fancy Free started as a shaken cocktail. Over time it’s become stirred and has replaced the sugar or simple syrup component with maraschino cherry liqueur.

Ingredients

2 oz HIRSCH Whiskey
½ oz Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur
3 dashes of Angostura Aromatic Bitters
2 dashes of Orange Bitters by Angostura

Directions

Combine bourbon, maraschino liqueur, orange bitters, and Angostura bitters in a mixing glass, and stir until well diluted.

Using a strainer, pour the contents into a rocks glass filled with ice or a single large ice cube. Garnish with a flamed orange twist, if desired. Serve cold.
